Aruna Quadri Olympic qualification in jeopardy, Oshonaike, Edem qualifies

Nigerian table tennis star Aruna Quadri is facing a big battle in order to book qualification for next summer ‘s Olympic games in Tokyo.

The world number 18 suffered double blow in the qualifiers when he was stunned by Ibrahima Diaw of Senegal in a 4-2 (11-7,11-8,11-8,6-11,11-13,11-7) in the second group game played on Friday.

 

The 2020ITTFAfricanCup finalist was then forced to withdraw from his last qualification match against Hman Adam due to a recurring thigh injury.

 

Consequently, he finished 3rd in group A and is yet to qualify, but has a chance to qualify for the Olympics through the ranking.

 

Meanwhile his compatriots Funke Oshonaike,  Offiong Edem and Omotayo Olajide has all sealed qualifications to the Tokyo games.

 

Olufunke Oshonaike joined the 7th club of Olympians became the first ever African female athlete to do so on seven occasions in Table tennis or in any other sport.
