At 51! Japanese star Kazuyoshi Miura signs new Yokohama FC contract

Kazuyoshi Miura’s seemingly never-ending career will continue for another year after signing a new contract with Yokohama FC

The Japanese second-tier side broke the news on Thursday that they had agreed on an extension with 51-year-old Miura.

The veteran forward, who holds the record of the oldest goalscorer in football, later thanked everyone and vowed not to waste a single minute.

“I updated the contract for 2019 season,” said Miura, according to bein.

“Thanks to everyone who always supports.”

“I will participate in many matches in one game, I will not waste it for one minute, one second. I think that I want to go face to face with football and go to daily training with maximum power.”

Miura started his playing career in Brazil with Santos before returning to Japan in 1990 and beating the likes of Gary Lineker and Zico to the J-League’s MVP award.

He also represented Japan at international with 89 caps and 55 goals before retiring 19 years ago and was named Asian Player of the Year in 1993.
