Bad day at the Office for Aremu in St. Pauli’s defeat to Schalke

Afeez Aremu had a game to forget in the Bundesliga 2 fixture between FC St. Pauli and Schalke on Saturday.

With many key players missing Aremu was needed among the starters, but the Midfielder only managed to play for Fifty-eight minutes.

He received a yellow card in the 26th minute and committed two more fouls shortly forcing a tactical substation.

Minutes into the second half St. Pauli coach Timo Schultz made his first substitution and it was taking off the Midfielder, who seemed like another rash challenge away from a sending off.

The Nigerian would be inconsolable after he was replaced and visibly disappointed with his performance, Aremu pulled his shirt over his face several times and couldn’t hide his frustration.

St. Pauli would go on to lose 3-2 at the Veltins Arena and also finished the game with nine men.

“In the next action he would have been in danger of having to leave the pitch. We reacted accordingly shortly before the break,” Schultz said about Aremu’s substitution.

“I don’t think it had any negative effects because with Rico (Ritzka) we were able to bring in someone who interpreted the position much more offensively and somewhere more secure with the ball.

“That might even have been good for our game,” St. Pauli Coach said.
