Balogun out of Huddersfield match, doubtful for Seychelles and Egypt friendly

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun will not be available for selection for his Club Brighton and Hove Albion Premier League clash with Huddersfield Town on Saturday at the Amex Stadium.

The defender has failed to recover from the shoulder injury which has kept him out of actions for the past three weeks and the injury has cast doubts over his availability for Super Eagles inconsequential 2019 AFCON qualifier game against Seychelles later this month.

The 30-year-old former Mainz 05 defender sustained the injury in training and missed the Seagulls’ last three games including the FA Cup fifth round win over Derby County as well as the Premier League games against Burnley and Leicester City.

“Pascal Gross will miss the game this weekend. He felt his hamstring, the good news is it’s not as bad as we first thought, but the game comes too soon. Leon Balogun will also still miss out,” Brighton’s manager Chris Hughton stated on Thursday.

Since signing for Brighton on a free transfer from German side FSV Mainz 05 shortly before the World Cup in 2018, Balogun has struggled for regular playing time at the club, making eight league appearances so far scoring once, which happened to be fastest scored by a substitute in the Premier League this season.
