Calvin Bassey had a game to forget as Ajax Amsterdam lost at home to Italian Serie A leaders Napoli 1-5 in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League.

With Osimhen missing for Napoli, Bassey started for Ajax and played from start to finish but was short of his usual standard.

Bassey and his defensive partners were run ragged by the rampaging attack of the Partenopei who has now won every single game since Victor Osimhen got injured.

Also, Ajax has now gone three matches without a clean sheet, with the defeat the heaviest under new manager Alfred Schreuder and in the history of the club since 1964.

The Nigerian international struggled to cope with Napoli’s slick moves and managed to make 6 recoveries, one interception, and one headed clearance.

In form Ghanaian forward Kudus Mohamed gave Ajax the ideal start to the game when he netted the opening in fine fashion.

But Napoli bounced back and dictate the game from the moment they managed to get their equalizer.

Giacomo Raspadori scored a brace while Cameroonian midfielder, Andre-Frank Anguisa who scored twice against Torino last weekend registered two assists.

Captain Giovanni Lorenzo also scored a goal, while Polish forward Piotr Zielinski and new signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were also on the score sheet.

Napoli has now picked 9 points from three games and they sit comfortably on top of the table, while Ajax occupies the third position behind Liverpool.

They’ll host Ajax at the Maradona for the reverse fixtures next week.
