Calvin Bassey was impressive in Ajax Amsterdam’s hard fought 2-1 win over Vitesse Arnhem in the Eredivisie, on Sunday.

After starting his second game under John Heitinga in the 3-1 defeat at Union Berlin last Thursday, Bassey was back on the bench for the trip to Arnhem.

The caretaker coach started the game with Owen Wijndal in left back position.

Bassey however got his chance after the first half break as he replaced Steven Berghuis.

The 22 year-old was solid all through his stay on the pitch, completing 33 passes, won 4 tackles and committed just 1 foul.

It was arguably his best second 45 minutes for the Dutch Champions this season.

Mexican defender Edson Álvarez and Dutch Midfielder Davy Klassen scored for Ajax, while Marco Van Ginkel netted Vitesse’ only goal.

The win keeps Ajax on pace and within three points of the table topping Feyenoord.
