You may think you’ve heard everything about Nigeria football, but, nothing prepares you for the bombshell former Super Eagles and 1996 Olympic gold medal winning Coach, Jo Bonfrere dropped.

Bonfrere who guided Nigeria to winning gold – a first for Africa – in the football tournament at the Olympics, with the Dream Team, revealed exclusively to Brila FM that an official “didn’t allow me to receive my gold medal”.

Revisiting some of the reasons why he quit his role as Nigeria’s Coach, the Dutchman revealed that he never collected his medal after Nigeria’s victory against Argentina in the final.

Bonfrere said an official, with the team, denied him the opportunity to keep the gold medal and even have it as a memorabilia.

 

The Coach did not disclose the name of the official or state if it was an NFF or Sport Ministry with the team. But, it will be recalled the Coach along with other officials and players in the team were awarded with the medal on the podium.

 

‘That was one of the problem and reason I didn’t like to stay on as Coach of Nigeria. Somebody has taken it away from me, He didn’t give it to me; He took it for himself. Somebody didn’t allow me to receive my gold Medal. Somebody, a big officer.

 

‘It’s been such a long time, maybe he’s’melted and sold the gold,’ Bonfrere responded to allege reports that he gave a fan his Atlanta 1996 gold medal.
