Team Nigeria’s Esther Oyema have broken the jinx by giving Nigeria her first Gold Medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in far away Gold Coast, Australia.

Oyema actually smashed the World Record, surpassing her previous mark of 126kg set four years ago in Glasgow. She lifted 131kg to win the gold.

Meanwhile, Compatriot Lucy Ejike has also won silver in the same category.

Competing in the Para-Powerlifting Women’s Lightweight category. Esther and Ejike were very comfortable throughout the competition and as a result, finished 1st and 2nd respectively.
