CAFCL: Lobi Stars bow to Wydad Casablanca in Enugu

Lobi Stars‘s quest to reach the knock out stage of the 2019 CAF Champions League suffered a big blow to following their 1-0 home defeat to 2017 champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in Enugu on Saturday.

Mohamed Nahiri‘s 20th minutes penalty made the difference as Lobi Stars struggled to recover from the set back for the entire duration.

The first half ended with the Wydad Casablanca goalkeeper on holiday as Lobi Stars struggled to create a meaningful chances going forward , no thanks to the Moroccans resolute defending.

The second half Lobi Stars had goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode to thank as he saved the second spot kick his side conceded in the game after 63rd minute of play.

The Pride of Benue however mounted a late pressure for a equaliser but the Moroccans were up to task to withstand everything thrown at them.

Lobi Stars remain third on the log in Group A with Wydad Casablanca back on top on six points and a better goals difference than Mamelodi Sundowns, who also have six points after three matches.

The Solomon Ogbeide’s men have a mountain to climb if they are to remain in the competition, starting with the game against Wydad Casablanca February 12 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat.
