Chukwueze sends Villarreal to first UCL semifinal in 17-years

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze scored the crucial goal that sealed Villarreal’s place in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The Nigerian international comes off the bench to finish a swift counterattack to earn Villarreal a 1-1 darw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Stadium.

The 23-year-old scored in the 88th minute after connecting with a Gerrard Moreno’s low cross.

Four of Samuel Chukwueze’s 5 goals in all competitions for Villarreal this season have come as a substitute.

Villarreal fell behind to Robert Lewandowski’s first goal of the match as the hosts began to crank up pressure on the Spanish side in the 52nd minute.

The German champions pushed hard and dominated in terms of both possession and chances in the second half. But wasn’t enough to keep them in the tie as Villarreal progressed 2-1 on agreegate.

The Europa League holders have now book their place in the semi-final for the first time since 2006.
