Club Brugge deny showing interest in Onuachu

Belgian Champions Club Brugge has reacted to the claim made by Paul Onuachu that the club tried to sign him before the closure of the summer transfer window.

Onuachu in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws said, he refused advances from Club Brugge to remain at Genk for the season.

The Nigerian international sighted rivalry between the two giants clubs as the main to stay put with the Limburgers.

He said:  “The interest (from Club Brugge) was concrete, but why should I leave KRC Genk for Club Brugge? In my view, that is a step sideways.”

“The board was also clear that a domestic transfer is not an option. We just want to compete in the title fight this season.”

And reacting to the claim, Club Brugge’s General Manager, Vincent Mannaert refuted the claim, saying Paul Onuachu was offered to them by an agent, but at no point in time did they consider signing him.

“Onuachu was offered to Club Brugge by brokers,” said Mannaert in MIDMIDPodcast.

“That’s the way it is today. But we immediately made it clear that there was no interest.” He concluded.
