Cyriel Dessers asked to learn from Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku

Cyriel Dessers has been advised to do everything possible to remain with Feyenoord rather than return to KRC Genk at the end of his loan contract with the Eredivisie side.

Dessers was constantly overlooked by Genk, but rediscovered his form after joining Feyenoord on a season long loan last summer.

He has contributed 16 goals in all competitions and is currently the leading scorer in the UEFA Conference League this season.

However, Dessers is coming to the end of his loan deal in Feyenoord and his parent club KRC Genk aren’t willing to lower their valuation for the striker.

Feyenoord has the option to sign him permanently, but the clause will expire on the 1st of June, which means Genk can recall the player.

Gert Verheyen, a Dutch football expert has now advised the striker against returning to Genk. He’s convinced Dessers isn’t loved and trusted by Genk’s manager.

“If you bring Dessers back, Genk must regard him as the deep striker. And let him stand. Because if the trainer later finds another striker better, Dessers will be back on the bench,” Gert Verheyen told Het Nieuwsblad.

“He deserves that chance, but if I were in his place, I would do everything I could to stay at Feyenoord because of the status he has there now. You always have to start from scratch when you go elsewhere.”

Verheyen added that, the Nigeria international should learn from the current campaign situation of Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea.

“Look at Lukaku. He has thrown away his status in Inter. While you always perform better when you know that you are appreciated somewhere,” He concluded.
