Dakkada FC came from behind to beat visitors Rivers United 4-2 in one of week 19 of Nigeria professional football league at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
The first goal of the game arrived in the 23rd minute when Emmanuel Charles beat River United goalkeeper Ospino Egbe from close range.
Rivers United however responded quickly and almost drew level 10 minutes later, but Fortune Omoniwari saw his excellent free-kick came off the woodwork.
Rivers United continued to build and should have equalized in the 37th minute but the bench watched in agony as Godwin Aguda missed a glorious sitter.
The well-deserved goal finally arrives two minutes after the Aguda’s miss, Nelson Esor riffled in an absolute beauty strike from 20 yards.
Rivers United went in front for the first time in-game with few minutes before halftime break, after Fortune Omoniwari set up Nelson Esor who calmly slotted home from 15 yards for his second of the game.
Rivers United was pegged back seconds later as Musa Bashiru headed home Unwana Asuquo’s corner to restore parity with the last kick of the half.
The second half was all Dakkada affairs as the visitors struggled to cope with the pace and precise passing of the Umar Danlami Kwasau’s side.
In the 63rd minutes, debutant Musa Bashiru got his second goal of the game for the home side after being put through by Isaac George.
Dakkada extended their advantage in the 76th minutes when Christian Ekong’s 25-yard free-kick beat Ospina Egbe.
The game ended 4 – 2 in favor of Dakkada and the three points see them leveled on points with Rivers United on the table.
Dakkada are currently 9th, one place off Rivers United who enjoys superior goal advantage with a game in hand.
