Dessers Out of Action Until March 31 in the Eredivisie

Cyriel Dessers will be rested until Nigeria’s first-leg 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone later this month, because the Eredivisie have announced suspension of all league matches until March 31.

Dessers, who was called up to Nigeria’s squad for the qualifiers, is expected to make his debut for the three-time African champions.

Nigeria hosts Sierra Leone on March 27 in the first leg of their 2021 AFCON qualifying tie at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

The 25 year-old Center Forward has already made 26 league appearances for Heracles Almelo this campaign and scored 15 goals.

However, him and his teammates will be out of action for the rest of March and miss two league games; PEC Zwolle (A) and Sparta Rotterdam (H).

The Eredivisie announced the decision, Thursday, in a statement on their official website.

The Statement Reads:

All football matches in the Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Division until March 31 have been postponed. The government announced this measure at a press conference after a crisis meeting on the corona virus. Stock Photo – Stock Photo – Stock Photos

Events with more than a hundred people in the Netherlands are canceled, people should work from home if possible and anyone who has a fever or respiratory complaints should stay inside anyway. One reason for the measures was that non-traceable infections were found in the Netherlands. This means that there is no longer any control over where people are infected with the coronavirus.

On Tuesday there was already a line through the games that would be played in Brabant: PSV – FC Emmen, Willem II – sc Heerenveen, RKC Waalwijk – FC Groningen, TOP Oss – FC Den Bosch and Jong PSV – Go Ahead Eagles. Now the other duels for round 27 (next weekend) and round 28 (March 20-22) are also being moved.

It is not yet known when the games will be made up.
