Dessers sets European record with brace against Marseille

Cyriel Dessers continued his hot streak in the UEFA Conference League with another brace for Feryernood in their first leg semifinal clash with Olympique Marseille on Thursday.

The Nigerian striker scored in both halves to give the Dutch giants hard fought 3-2 win.

Dessers got his first real chance of the game in the fifth minute, but fired just wide from inside the box.

The 26-year-old forward would make amend for the miss as he poked home the opener from close range in the 18th minute.

Luis Sinisterra made it 2-0 for Feryernood two minutes later.

Marseille however fought back to level 2-2 before the break, thanks to goals from Bamba Diang and Gerson.

With few seconds into the second half, Dessers restored Feryernood’s lead when he capitalised on defensive error from the Marseille defenders.

His second goal at 45:09 was the fastest goal in a second half of a European main stage game since 2009-10.

He also became the first player to score ten goals in the history of the newly formed competition.

Dessers is now the outright leading scorer in the competition with ten goals, the closest person to him on the chat is Roma’s striker Tammy Abraham.
