Stanley Eguma praised his Rivers United side for their slim win over Sunshine Stars on Monday.
Morice Chukwu’s solitary strike was all the Pride of Rivers needed to edge the Owena Waves and seal passage to the title playoff.
The result also banished the pain of Confederation Cup and Federation Cup exit for the NPFL crown holders.
Eguma said their opponents made things difficult for them and glad they were able to come up with a solution.
“It was a tough game and we expected it because Sunshine Stars was also eyeing the Super 6 play-off and they played hard but the game was under our control,” Eguma said after the game.
“The players did very well but Sunshine Stars were just lucky, it would have been dozens of goals, I commended the players,” he said.
Rivers United will host Doma United in another rescheduled game on Thursday.
