Ekong’s error rendered Dennis seventh goal of the season meaningless

Emmanuel Dennis was on target for Watford in their Premier League defeat to Frank Onyeka’s Brentford on Saturday.

The goal was his seventh of the season, however, it was not enough to earn the Hornet a point at the Brentford Community stadium.

Dennis put Watford in front after 24 minutes when he headed home a corner taken by Tom Cleverly.

Two goals in the last six minutes, including Bryan Mbeumo’s last-gasp penalty, earned Brentford a stunning late 2-1 comeback win the game.

The Bees equalized through Pontus Jansson in the 84th minute. Jansson, who last scored a goal in February 2019, scored from close range.

The home side completed the comeback in the 95th minute Bryan Mbeumo converted from the penalty spot-kick.

William Ekong fouled Saman Ghoddos in the box and referee Michael Oliver pointed to the spot without hesitation, and Mbeumo made no mistake from 12 yards.

Following the defeat, Watford slipped to 17th place on the table with 13 points, while Brentford who are on 20 points moved to ninth place.
