Finidi George Stays Traditional with Super Eagles Captaincy

Super Eagles head coach Finidi George shed light on the process of selecting the national team captain.

In an exclusive interview with Brila FM, Finidi stated that selection is determined primarily by seniority within the squad.

“Captainship for the Super Eagles is based on seniority. It was like that during my time and still the same now.

“Those that has been there before you, will definitely have the opportunity to be captain before you.

“There must be an agreement between the coach and the senior players to make a captain.”

“But for a young player who is just coming into the team thinking he can be, ? , it won’t happen in my time (as Super Eagles Head Coach).”

With the current captain, Ahmed Musa and his assistants, William Troost-Ekong, gradually approaching the twilight of their playing careers with the national team, Finidi George’s position provides clarity on the direction of leadership roles within the team.

The Super Eagles coach suggested that seniority highlights the need for experienced players to guide the team through transitional phases, ensuring stability and continuity in leadership.
