Finidi Sets Sights on Super Eagles’ World Cup Redemption

Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George emphasized the significance of securing victories in the team’s next two matches within the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series.

Nigerian has picked up just two points in the qualifiers, having drawn their initial encounters against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

 

 

Finidi is set to lead the Super Eagles for the first time in an official capacity, will guide the team in their upcoming match against South Africa on Friday, June 7th.

“The World Cup qualification matches against South Africa and Benin Republic is a collective responsibility for all Nigerians,” the Super Eagles coach said.

“I know I am in charge now and the heavy responsibility is on me to win the two world cup matches.”

Despite Nigeria’s absence from the last FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Finidi George remains optimistic about the team’s prospects.

Finidi also disclosed that he is monitoring the opponents, indicating a strategic approach towards achieving their qualification goals.​

“I will do my best to ensure success and qualify for the world Cup. I am also in touch with the players and they are ready and willing yo give their all having missed out in the last edition held in Qatar.

In terms of having knowledge of our opponents, I have been following them. Honestly my target is to win the two matches and not to be judged with the two international friendly game played.”
