Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum who was instrumental in Jurgen Klopp’s men getting to the final by scoring twice in the semi-final win over Barcelona, basked in the glory of the club’s achievement by celebrating and posing with his 84-year old grandmother Francina as she wore his winners’ medal.’

The midfielder played just over an hour of Saturday’s final against Tottenham as Liverpool ran our 2-0 winners to collect their sixth European Cup.

Wijnaldum’s grandmother raised him from the age of five after his mother moved to Amsterdam played a significant role in helping him achieve his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

He said ‘When I was young, I used to go to training so early in the morning that the trams in Rotterdam weren’t running yet so my grandma would walk there with me even though it took 45 minutes.

But his grandmum refuses to take all the credit she said, ‘A lot of people would say It’s because of me that he is where he is in football, but Georgino did it all himself. I just did my job because I’m his grandma.’
