Girona upset: Cristiano Ronaldo risks second BAN of the season

Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, could face another ban this season, after he was caught grappling with Girona midfielder, Pere Pons, during their 2-1 defeat on Sunday.

As the ball was swung in, Ronaldo realized that he had lost the battle for it and started pushing Pons’ head.

Ronaldo can be seen raising his right hand to the head of Pere Pons and then dragging his palm across his face as they both tussled for the ball.

Pons then falls to the floor.

The Madrid star – who was subjected to chants of “Messi!” during the game – served a five-match ban at the start of the season and missed the first four matches of La Liga.

He was banned one game for receiving two yellow cards in the Super Cup win over Barcelona in August and another four for pushing the referee after he was sent off.

Ronaldo missed the first five games of Real’s campaign, after he was sent off for diving and then pushed the referee during his side’s Spanish Super Cup victory over Barcelona.

He has struggled since his return, scoring only once in the league.

Real are now eight points behind leaders Barcelona in the title race and might be without Ronaldo for a few games.

And it was a bad night for Ronaldo’s team-mate Karim Benzema too.

The France striker failed to score against the underdogs – the only side he has not netted against among the 32 he has faced.

Girona was well worth the win.

They twice hit the post in the first half and were unlucky to go behind to an Isco goal after he netted on the break.

But two goals in four second-half minutes turned the tide.

Former Middlesbrough star Cristhian Stuani scored first and striker Portu the second.
