Peter Rufai says he was invited back the Super Eagles squad only a few weeks before the 1998 World Cup and so discountenance the prediction of doom with the current team “that have several months before the world cup.”
Rufai argues that Gernot Rohr and his backroom staff can work on what ever crisis exists in the goalkeeping department before June 2018 and supports keeping faith with Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
“1998 and 2018 aren’t the same at all. I was called back just weeks before the tournament, whereas this team still have months to go before the world cup.”
On the question of the cries for the recall of Vincent Enyeama, Rufai insists the Coaches can only work with players they have available and can’t duel on the thoughts of what is not certain.
Rufai earned 65 caps for Nigeria before his retirement after the 1998 World Cup.
