Ilechukwu lauds MFM stars after southwest derby triumph

Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries FC head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has praised his charges for putting up a commanding performance against Remo Stars.

The Olukoya Boys recorded their first away victory of the season on Wednesday in Osogbo against the Sky Blue Stars in a Matchday 7 fixture of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season tagged the ‘southwest derby’ with Adeniji Adewole Kabir scoring the only goal of the encounter.

MFM FC largely dominated the first half of the derby with spirited display and got the first goal on 13 minutes when Adeniji latched onto a pass from Abah Joshua to give the Lagos-based team the maximum points.

The hosts came out strong and better in the second 45 minutes with determination and pile the pressure on MFM with attacking intent but Ilechukwu’s wards were so resolute with their defending and kept the home team at bay.

Ilechukwu lauded his team for posting a worthy performance against a more experienced Remo Stars side in an interview with the Media.

“We have a youthful side and yesterday (Wednesday) was tough so I give it to my team because of the performance.

The pressure was so much. I also want to say a big thank you to Joshua Akpudje the youngest defender in Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) right now from the beginning of the game to the end he was like a rock at the back and also my goalkeeper Jerry Isaac was fantastic.

“We are just in Week 7 and we need to take the game one after the other. We can’t talk about winning the league right now because we won yesterday does not mean we are there yet it’s just that the tactics worked so we are hopeful that the tactics will work again in our next home game.

“Just like what happened at FC Ifeanyiubah after they won and at the end of the day they lost at home that’s the NPFL for you so I don’t want yesterday winning to get into our heads so we will prepare very well for the next game,” Ilechukwu said with a hint of a warning to his players.

The MFM trainer concluded by playing down the possibility of winning the NPFL.

“For me, this is not the right time to talk about winning the league because everybody is working very hard to make sure that they win the league. So what we are working on for now is to make sure that our team is not relegated,” he said.

The Lagos-based team currently sit in the first position on the Group A standings with 12 points from six NPFL games.
