I’ve never heard of a food called Amala — Super Eagles striker

Belgian-born Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers is gradually settling down into the national team, after more than twelve months away from the team.

Genk’s forward revealed some of his favorite teammates on the team and Nigerian dishes in an exclusive interview at www.brila.net.

The 27-year-old who has a Belgian father and Nigerian mother (Yoruba woman in the Southwestern part of Nigeria), revealed his choice between pounded yam and Amala.

Amala and pounded yam are the two most popular traditional food among the Yorubas.

When asked to name his favorite among the two, Dessers opted for Pounded yam as his favorite, before adding that, he hasn’t heard of Amala.

The striker is set to make his home debut for the Super Eagles this Thursday against Sierra Leone, two-year after playing his match against Tunisia.

The Nigeria Football Federation however reiterated the game at MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja will be played without fans in the stands.

“Yea, it is behind the closed doors. I was looking forward to playing in Nigeria, in front of the fan, but on the hand, this is business we have to do our job.

“I’ll never regret my decision if even it’s two years before my call up, but I’ll keep fighting for the team and the fans.” He concluded.
