Paul Merson backs Arteta to rebuild Arsenal

The 50-year-old former England and Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has expressed his satisfaction with the work that Mikel Arteta has been doing at Arsenal.

Arteta was named Arsenal’s manager last year after the Gunners had a terrible start under Unai Emery. And the former Gunner has backed the Spaniard to make an impression at the Emirates.

Arsenal has been going through a quite underwhelming period while on a downward spiral. They are still being affected by the poor start that they made at the beginning of the season. But luckily, Arteta was there to save the day and he has brought about impressive changes at the Emirates.

This is something that didn’t go unnoticed by Paul Menson, who himself is one of the household football players, and at the peak of his career in football, he was very much into gambling as well. He liked playing real money online casino games just as much as playing on the field. Paul Merson has spent around £7 million on gambling in the 1990s. And now he is probably better than ever with a very healthy lifestyle and he is also very happy that  Arsenal is also getting into a better shape with Arteta being its treatment.

The Gunners have been eliminated from the UEFA Europa League in a rare negative, but they remain upbeat in domestic competitions this year and some players who had been terrible under Emery are starting to show their worth under the Spaniard. Merson is definitely enjoying the management style of Arteta and claims that unlike the likes of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, the Spaniard is a manager who can rebuild the team from the ground up and is willing to put in the necessary effort and time.

According to Merson, there are many good managers who aren’t good coaches and there are also good coaches who aren’t good managers, so it is pretty difficult to get it right. This is why he is so impressed by Arteta’s performance. He thinks that in order to be and feel challenged you need the team and the coaches around you, who aren’t just some yes men and who will actually help you develop as a player.

And he thinks that this situation definitely needs someone like Mikel Arteta. A young, enthusiastic person like him is sure to work with some younger players, lesser players unlike José Mourinho and Pen Guardiola who are just dealing in majors and nothing else. He will be given loads and loads of time in order to build and put work into the players which are good because Arsenal’s expectations will be nowhere near as high as they were just a couple of months ago. This also takes some pressure off of Arteta and now that “anything is a bonus” he will be in the right state of mind and environment to rebuild and strengthen the team, physically and mentally as well.
