McLeish offers His former Club Advice on Calvin Bassey Transfer

Former Rangers manager Alex McLeish, has advised Rangers to cash in on Calvin Bassey, if they received the right offer.

Bassey is reportedly wanted by Aston Villa and West Ham United following his impressive performances last season.

McLeish, who managed Rangers and Aston during his time in the dug out, said that the Scottish giants should only allow Bassey to leave this summer if they can secure a fee of at least £25m from interested Clubs.

He said the young defender worth same price Arsenal paid for Kieran Tierney, who signed for Arsenal from Celtic in 2019.

“I would say yes,” McLeish told STV when asked if Bassey should warrant a similar fee to Tierney. “In the beginning when I saw Bassey I wasn’t sure if he was a left full-back, wing-back, centre-back.

“He’s been versatile enough to play in all three positions. I really enjoyed his cup final performance and that’s made me see why there’s so much attention being paid to him at the moment,” He said.

The Italian-born Nigerian international has made 50 appearances for the club in all competitions last season.

He won the the man of the match award in the final of the Europa League and Scottish Cup in the 2021/22 campaign.
