Napoli boss Spalletti unhappy about AFCON timing

The Africa Cup of Nations will go ahead as planned and Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti  has labeled it as an ‘invincible monster’.

The Confederation of African Football was reportedly considering shifting the this year’s edition due to the rapid spread of the COVID Omicron variant.

However, the Cameroon Football Federation has now refuted the reports and confirmed that the tournament will hold as planned.

Asked if the organizers should have considered postponing the tournament, Napoli’s head coach Luciano Spalleti said, he has institutional power to make the decision, but hopes common sense prevails.

“I don’t have an institutional role, as far as I’m concerned in such a delicate moment the Africa Cup is an invisible monster, let’s hope common sense prevails”, He said.

The Italian manager is unhappy with the timing of the tournament and has spoken against it numerous times in the past.

Two of Spalleti’s important players — Victor Osimhen and Kalidou Koulibaly will represent Nigeria and Senegal at the tournament which is expected to kick off on the 9th of January and end February 11th.
