Nigerian U13 and U16 National Squash championship to kick-off November 17

The Nigeria Squash Federation has confirmed that the second edition of the Ex-Squash Pros Diaspora Under-13 and Under-16 National Squash championship, will commence on 15 to 17 November, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium’s squash hall, Lagos.

Athletes will compete at various categories in the squash championship with close to 200 participants expected to take part in the game.

 

While speaking on what the federation want to achieve for staging the tournament, the Nigeria Squash Federation President  Boye Oyerinde said federations commitment towards the development of the game at the grassroots level has prompted the tournament.

 

“Squash game has come to stay, the most important aspect of the tournament is that it develops the grassroots and young players so as to help groom them. The game is just starting and I know there are still a lot to showcase in this tournament,” he said.

 

The Chairman of Ex-Squash Pro Diaspora, Femi Solomon Shittu,  also echoed the statement of the Boye Oyerinde and insists that the aims of the competition encourage grassroots participants to showcase their talent and skill and also to discover good young players.

 

“The purpose of this tournament is to establish the grassroots to help them showcase their talent and also give them room to prove their worth.”

 

Mr. Shittu also believes at some point the tournament will attract corporate bodies who will support the organizers in the area of funding to sustain the tournament.

 

“In terms of financial support am motivated and I will continue to at some point we are looking at corporate bodies to join us and support us, by the grace of God everything will turn good for us.

 

“We have promised them that this is just the beginning because last year’s edition was not up to this year’s own so we are improving year by year,” he added.
