NWPL Week Four Preview

NWPL Week Four Preview

Edo Queens face an uphill task to claim maximum points for the first time this campaign as they play Confluence Queens.

With two draws and a defeat, one can only imagine the pressure on Edo Queens as the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) enters week four on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rivers Angels, on the other hand, have a far calmer atmosphere in camp, having won one and drawn one of two games. Their quest to make it two wins faces a real test, with the Jewel of Rivers playing as guests to Abia Angels, who scored two times in their last home game.

With seven points in three games, Adamawa Queens are are indeed the team to beat in Group A. They however, have a tricky fixture away at the Umuahia Stadium, where they face Osun Babes on Sunday.

Nwfl.com.ng previews all the seven matches taking place in the NWPL at midweek.

FC Robo Queens Vs Ibom Angels

FC Robo Queens made a number of major moves and so far the results are positive. Ayo Omosuyi has been a good role player with two assists in three league games, Chindinma Okeke, Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift have been amazing.

Ibom Angels might have not clicked in terms of results but they are strong on paper. With Charity Reuben firing on all cylinder and the Uyo side still maintaining a strong forward line, Robo’s defense could be in for a long day.

With more offensive power, more depth, and the home-pitch advantage, Robo have to be big favourites here. But the two teams are in the right frame of mind, anything could happen at the Legacy Pitch.

Sunshine Queens Vs Bayelsa Queens

Sunshine Queens welcome Bayelsa Queens in a tantalizing match at the Akure Township Stadium.

Against a still-improving Bayelsa Queens, the Owena Mermaids have a good opportunity to pick up three points, in what looks to be a dire but determined match.

Abia Angels Vs Rivers Angels

Reigning champions Rivers Angels clash with Abia Angels on Thursday.

Rivers have made a good start to the season, winning one and earning a draw in two matches played so far, scoring four goals and conceding just one.

Abia Angels, meanwhile were whipped 4-0 by Bayelsa Queens last week and they will be hoping to repeat the form that saw them defeat the Jewel of Rivers in a friendly match before the commencement of the campaign

Only goal difference separates Abia Angels and Angels, as the two unbeaten sides face-off at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Edo Queens Vs Confluence Queens

Edo Queens were thought to be a serious contender for top two after reinvesting in their squad while keeping all of their best players, but they’re off to a very slow start. They’re yet to pick up a win and got smashed by Nasarawa Amazons in Lafia. Wednesday’s match at home to Confluence Queens presents an opportunity for them to turn their season around.

It would seem we are running out of superlatives for Confluence Queens, as victory last week over Osun Babes made it two wins and one draw out of three for the Lokoja based outfit. They are yet to concede a goal so far. Led by Equatorial Guinea international Tobiloba Olanrewaju, the New Direction Queens have surprised everybody with their early form and will hope that they can keep that going as they pay a visit to Edo Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Wednesday.

This could turn into one of the most exciting games of the midweek. Expect goals from both teams.

Saadatu Amazon Vs Nasarawa Amazons

On the evidence of recent Saadatu Amazon’s performances, this could get pretty difficult for the league rookies. It’s not rare to see previously struggling teams play very well, so there are certainly ingredients for a weird upset present. Nasarawa Amazons have a winning average of 0.66 per match and certainly have the required tools to be victorious.

Osun Babes Vs Adamawa Queens

The sweet story of Adamawa Queens is the talk of the town. Two wins and one draw after three matches deserve commendation.

They have a litmus test in Osun Babes, who are desperate to return to winning ways.

It’s a contest expected to produce goals and the venue is the Osogbo Township Stadium.

Pelican Stars Vs Delta Queens

This is the last match of the midweek that concludes round four, and it should be the most interesting one as well.

Pelican Stars are in fifth place with three points from three matches. They have lost two games in a row. So far their only source for points has been their only home game, Delta Queens beat Saadatu Amazon and climbed up to fourth place and they could end up within the top-three after this week. That’s why they will go for the win at full throttle here, but they need to be careful as to not to be take by surprise.
