Okereke tamed as Sasuolo embarrasses Venezia at laguna

Nigerian forward David Okereke suffered a heavy defeat in the Serie A with Venezia on Sunday.

The strugglers were beaten 1-4 at home by Sassuolo – with Okereke playing all the minutes.

Okereke and his teammates endured a poor start and were completely out of the game, after opening 30 minutes.

With 88 seconds into the game, Giacomo Raspadori had burst forward, a dummy sent one of the three defenders to the ground and he drilled in at the near post from nine yards.

Berardi converted the spot-kick to make it 2-0 to the visitors, after 17 minutes.

Sassuolo received another penalty when Romero brought down Berardi and, Scamacca converted by blasting down the center in the 29th minute.

The home side reduced the deficit when Thomas Henry scored a glancing header from six yards, after getting on to an Ales Mateju cross from the right.

Just as Venezia began to click, the referee awarded another penalty. Michael Svoboda was tripped Raspadori in the box and Berardi converted Sassuolo’s third penalty of the game.

David Okereke had the ball in the net for 2-4, but again the offside flag was up and confirmed by VAR.

Venezia then missed another chance to grab consolation late in the game, as Mattia Aramu’s weak penalty was saved at the near bottom corner by Consigli.
