Olamide George led AFN confident athletes are on their side

Acting President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Olamide George has stated that the Nigerian athletes will not be affected by the latest twist in the leadership tussle rocking the Athletics body in Nigeria after a Federal high court in Abuja recognized impeached President Ibrahim Gusau as the President of the board.

George speaking in a chat with brila.net after also having confirmed that his board will appeal the ruling said the athletes have no reason to be worried and that they certainly are on the side of his board having ignored competitions organized before now by the Ibrahim Gusau led AFM board in the early part of the year.
He also added that his board facilitated Covid-19 palliatives through the ministry of sports for athletes.
“The athletes when you even look at their response, they see our own board as the board who has come to safe athletics in Nigeria. So if we must also test our popularity and who the athletes will follow today you know what happened the last time, they called for a competition – the athletes didn’t attend their competition.
“They were all in our competition this year and we paid out athletes. These are things that never happened when Gusau was there. So non of the athletes are even complaining. During this COVID, we reached out to the ministry to assist in also giving out little palliatives to the athletes which they did.”
