Onuachu fires Blank in Genk’s defeat to Anderlecht

Super Eagles duo of Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers failed to help KRC Genk avoid defeat against Anderlecht in the Jupiler League match at the Litmus Arena on Sunday.

Onuachu fired blank as Genk lost at home 1-2 to their visitors, who themselves paraded another Nigerian attacker Paul Mukairu.

 

While Onuachu, who has scored 20 league goals this season started the match and last for the entire duration, Dessers was handed a cameo appearance.

 

Dessers came on to replace Kristian Thorstvedt in the 84th minute.

 

Anderlecht coach Vincent Kompany also introduced Mukairu in the 64th minute after he substituted Jacob Bruun Larsen.

 

Onuachu’s strike partner Theo Bongonda Genk gave them the lead two minutes into the match, but his goal was rendered meaningless as Anderlecht fought back to snatch all the maximum.

 

Genk defender Danny Vukovic’s owngoal brought the visitors level in the 19th minute, before Albert Sambi Lokonga set up Anouar Ait El Hadj for the winner three minutes later.

 

In order to rescue a point from the game, Genk coach introduced Cyriel Dessers and Bastien Toma, but the duo were couldn’t change the outcome.

 

The victory moved fourth placed Anderlecht to 41 points after 23 matches, they remain two points behind Genk who themselves slipped to third after the defeat.
