Osimhen on parade as Napoli falters at Genoa

Victor Osimhen was in action for Napoli in their 2-1 away defeat to Genoa in the Italian Serie A match at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday.

 

Osimhen didn’t start the match, but  Gennaro Gattuso subbed him on for Andrea Petagna in the 54th minute in order to rescue the team from defeat.

 

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through Napoli’s former attacker Goran Pandev, thanks to a Milan Badelj assist.

 

Pandev struck again fourteen minutes later to complete his brace as Gattuso’s side failed to close him down earlier before firing past David Ospina in goal.

 

Gattuso reacted In the second-half and introduced Lorenzo Insigne and Osimhen for Piotr Zielinski and Petagna respectively in the 54th minute.

 

The pair tried numerous times to make things happen for Copa Italian holders but the home side defended with plenty of bodies to protect their lead.

 

Napoli however found a way back in the 79th minute, as Matteo Politano beat goalkeeper Mattia Perin from a goalmouth scramble.

 

It was the first goal Genoa will concede in their last five league matches and in over 400 minutes of football.

 

Napoli was unable to get the needed equalizer and they stumbled to their first defeat to Genoa in 18 matches.
