Per Mertesacker was once ruthlessly tricked into donating to the Mesut Ozil ‘missing person’ fund following Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City earlier this month.
Ozil has had his best goalscoring season in Arsenal colours this term, scoring nine goals in 28 appearances, but the German playmaker has been criticised for a lack of consistency as the Gunners sit sixth in the Premier League table.
Arsenal’s dismal record against their top-four rivals has been a major reason for them falling behind in the title race and Ozil continues to be accused of vanishing in the side’s most important games.
The 28-year-old World Cup winner has been the butt of rival fans’ jokes for much of the season and one supporter took it to the next level.
‘Can you just donate to the fund?’ a member of YouTube channel CheekySport asked Mertesacker while holding out a bucket outside the Emirates.
Unfortunately for Mertesacker, there was a picture of his team-mate Ozil on the other side of the bucket alongside the words ‘MISSING PERSON’ in giant capital letters.
