Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro has refuted rumors of a rift between him and striker, Kelechi Iheanacho at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Iheanacho is yet to get get time in Cote d’Ivoire, and was available for selection despite arriving Abidjan before Nigeria’s first game against Equatorial Guinea.

However, Peseiro clarified that the Forward had been dealing with injury before joining the squad.

Addressing reporters, Peseiro emphasized Iheanacho’s importance to the team and hinted at his potential involvement in the upcoming match against Cameroon.

“If something happened between me and Kelechi, he wouldn’t have come, would have stayed back at Leicester. You know about Kelechi’s injury?

“When a player has come and recovered, the coach and medical staff need to manage to see if he’s fit or not, ready or not, it’s clear that with Kelechi, we believe too much in him and he’s going to play and going to score.”
