Peseiro hails Super Eagles character after hard fought win over Sierra Leone

Super Eagles head Coach, Jose Peseiro was full of praises for his players after qualifying for the next CAF Africa Cup of Nations billed for Cote D’Ivoire.

The three-time AFCON winners sealed their passage to the tournament with a 3-2 win over neighbors, Sierra Leone, on matchday five of the qualifying series.

Super Eagles won the game, courtesy of Kelechi Iheanacho’s late winner after a first half brace from Victor Osimhen was cancelled by Mustapha Bundu and Augusto Kargbo.

Speaking after the hard fought win, Peseiro said: ”Very hard match my players never gave up, they fought till the final whistle. In the first half we created up to eight opportunities but only scored two goals.

“We deserved to win but I think it was difficult, and a very good match, but our team is the best in the group we did a fantastic job against a good team I’m happy with my players, congratulations to them.

“I’m happy we have to avoid the 4-4 draw that happened two or three years ago. But it was a difficult game.”

The Super Eagles moves to the top of the Group with 12 points, two more than second placed Guinea Bissau.
