Plateau United has moved one point within league leaders Rivers United after an emphatic 3-0 victory over Akwa United at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday.
Nenrot Silas opened scoring for the home side early in the first half, before Buhari Ibrahim added the second goal in the 64th minutes.
A final minute goal from Izuchukwu Chimezie sealed the three points for the Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side and handed the champions to their fourth defeats of the season.
The defeat in Jos on Sunday was the first time in three seasons that Akwa United have failed to pick a point against Plateau United away from home.
The Promise Keepers remain 6th on the log with 23 points, nine behind table toppers Rivers United.
Plateau United will now travel to Makurdi to face Lobi Stars at the Aper Aku Stadium, while Akwa United will next engage Wikk Tourist in mid-week at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium – Nest of Champions.
