Rivers United 0-2 Club Africain: Defeat leaves United’s hope of Advancing hanging by a thread

Rivers United will require a miracle to advance beyond the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup after they lost 2-0 at home to Club Africain and dropped to the bottom of group A with six points from five matches.

Stanley Eguma’s men were no match for their North African counterpart in the fight for three crucial points that could have given them more than a slim chance of advancing to the quarter-finals of the competition.

After a goalless first half, Nigeria’s only surviving team on the continent caved in allowing the visitors break.

Club Africain scored in the second half and were aided by an owngoal from captain of the Nigerian side Festus Austin.
