Enyimba of Aba’s hope of winning this season Nigeria professional football league suffered another blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Rivers United.

Playing at thr Aba Township Stadium, Enyimba nedded a victory to close the gap on leaders Akwa United who themselves had a tricky match with Plateau United in Jos.

Enyimba started the match with low intensity and struggled to get the ball out of their own half.

They finally fell behind in the 34th minutes when Malachi Ohawume gave the visitors the lead with an emphatic finish.

The Aba Elephants however improve their game in the second half and they levelled the scores three minutes after the resumption, thanks to a strike from. Sadiq Abubakar.

Rivers United reacted to the set back and managed to get the ball to the back of the net in the 75th minute, the goal was disallowed after the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.

The last chance of the game fell to Enyimba’s Victor Mbaoma in the 86th minute, but Rivers United goalkeeper Abiodun Akande pulled off a brilliant save to deny him from point blank range.

Enyimba has now failed to win any of their lat three league game and the latest result leaves them in six position, six points adrift Akwa United, although with a game in hand.
