Rohr reveals reasons for Samuel Kalu’s struggle in Bordeaux

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has revealed some of the reasons for Samuel Kalu’s struggle this season.

Kalu has struggled to stay fit with several injuries knocking him out of crucial games for Girondins Bordeaux this season.

The 23-year-old only featured in 20 matches in Ligue one for Bordeaux this season, scoring four goals and assisted three.

The winger also missed the Super Eagles’ last rounds of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho, due to reoccurring injuries.

In his reaction to the player’s recent struggle, Rohr said the player is missing his family, coupled with the injury problems.

“Still, the boy has a lot of injuries this year. I hope he is well supervised on all levels, mentally, medically, and sportingly. Every time he plays with me, he’s good, but it’s true that this season has been rotten with injuries. I hope he can help the Girondins for the end of the season.

“He was also a bit lonely without his family in Bordeaux. He lacked a little family support. But it’s going to get better and better.” he told French tabloid Girondins4Ever.
