Sadiq Umar talks on slow start to life with the Super Eagles & what to expect against Ghana

Sadiq Umar has explained reason behind his slow start to life in the Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles.

The former Rangers forward said he has little or not time to settle into the team properly, before his debut.

Umar was invited to the Super Eagles for this first time last January and he accompanied the team to the African Cup of Nations.

He made his debut in the tournament and featured in all the games, before the team was knocked out by Tunisia in the round of 16 .

“When I came to the national team i don’t have much time to settle , but I was working hard and humbling myself to learn things about the environment and not I’m invited again and whenever you see yourself in the National team ,you appreciate the moment and then give the best response.”

Umar is back in the squad for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ghana.

He’s one of the strikers picked by Coach Eguavoen for the two legged clash scheduled for Baba Yana Stadium in Kumasi and the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja .

Speaking ahead of the game, Umar opined that, the Super Eagles can’t afford to miss the FIFA World Cup and must take care of the Ghanaians .

“Everyone has been talking about it, even me. I’ve been thinking about it as well, because it’s about our lives .”

“So we have to go there and be ready to give everything, not just in the first game, but the second as well .”

“I know, with our qualities and experience, we can do it. We have to learn from our past mistake too, because we can’t afford not to be at the World Cup.” He told Omasports.
