Super Eagles and Nantes forward Moses Simon is pleased to lead Super Eagles for the first time in his professional career.

With Ahmed Musa not starting and William Troost-Ekong missing due to injury, Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro handed the Nantes forward the Captain’s armband in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Sao Tome and Principe on Monday.

Simon indeed led by example on the pitch as he scored a goal and assisted the other two in the 10-0 demolition of the tiny African side.

It was Nigeria’s biggest win since beating the Benin Republic 10-1 in 1959 in Lagos.

“Big honour for me to wear the captain armband of the Super Eagles. A historic win for the team. To God be all the glory.” He posted on Twitter.

Moses now has three assists and a goal after two qualifying games.
