Stanley Eguma elated with Rivers United’s progress on the continent

Stanley Eguma has praised his players’effort after securing a quarter final ticket at the ongoing CAF Confederations Cup with a draw against Daibles Noirs of Congo on Sunday.

The Pride of Rivers battled to a against the Congolese at the Goodswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo on Sunday.

Rivers United recovered from a first half own goal to lead 2-1, thanks to a brace from Nyima Nwagua.

The Nigerian Champions were five minutes away from securing a all three points, before the visitors struck to level the game.

The draw however was enough for qualification with a game to spare.

Speaking with the press, Eguma said he couldn’t asked for more from his players, stating that the visitors deserves to go home with a point.

“It was tough and difficult game, actually, we expected it because we knew our opponent needed this game to qualify but we knew that we have to give our best for us to be able to forge ahead.

“I was surprised when they scored the first goal, I thanked my players for showing character in the second half, scoring an equaliser and going ahead, it was a good one.

“Unfortunately, we gave in to their late equaliser, they deserved it because there was a loophole in our defence, and they capitalised on it and got the equaliser”, he said.
