Stanley Eguma tags Rivers United’s win over Bloemfontein Celtics as fake

Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma heaped praises on his players following their complete performance against Bloemfontein Celtics.

Rivers United defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 3 – 0 in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round in Porto Novo on Saturday.

The Pride of Rivers sealed qualification for the next round with a 5 – 0 aggregate win, haven won the first meeting in South Africa 2 – 0 a few weeks ago.

Speaking after the game, Eguma said the results is not the true reflection of the match as it was the efforts of his players to make the tie looked easier.

He said Bloemfontein Celtics caused his side some problems but they were determined to get the job done.

“We thank God for making it possible for us to achieve this, we also want to thank the players for the hard-earned win because this match should have been played before now.”

“The scoreline is not a reflection of the game, our opponents came with a very strong game plan.”

“They started playing good football after the early goal we scored and showed they wanted to turn around the table, unfortunately, they met a stronger team.”

“The boys got fired up and got the second and the third goal, it was a very good victory for the players, the technical crew, and the sponsors.” He said.

Rivers United will now play against Enyimba for a place in the Group stage of the competition.
