Super Eagles duo Iheanacho and Ndidi wins FA Cup with Leicester City

The Super Eagles and Leicester City duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and midfielder Wilfred Ndidi are the latest Nigerians to win the prestigious English FA Cup.

Iheanacho and Ndidi were both named in the Foxes starting lineup as the Brendan Rodgers side took up London side, Chelsea at the National Stadium in Wembley.

Belgian Midfielder Youri Tielemans gave Leicester City the lead in the 63rd minute and the beautiful effort was enough to win the FA Cup at Wembley.

The drama came late in this game. Chelsea sub Ben Chilwell was instrumental in the move that saw in City’s club captain, Wes Morgan who had only just come on himself, inadvertently prod the ball into his own net.

The fact that Chilwell, against his former employers, had been involved in Chelsea’s bid for parity, was a touch of karma for the foxes.

The game seem set for extra time. But the VAR was around to rule Chelsea’s ‘goal’ out for offside and the cunning Foxes, with Ndidi on the pitch were on their way to sweet success.

This was Leicester’s first opportunity to lift the world-famous FA Cup for the first time in over five long decades.

Ndidi and Iheanacho have now joined the long list of Nigerian players to have won the FA CUP.

The list includes Daniel Amokachi (Everton), Celestine Babayaro (Chelsea), Nwankwo Kanu (Arsenal/Portsmouth), John Mikel Obi (Chelsea), John Utaka (Portsmouth), Victor Moses (Chelsea), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal).
