Super Eagles out to Avenge 2015 Afcon disappointment – Pascal

Nigeria will be going out to avenge the disappointment of missing out on the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations when they face South Africa on Saturday in the qualifiers to reach the 32nd edition of the competition.

Team coordinator of the Eagles, Patrick Pascal has told brila.net that the players are determined to bury the ghost of the 2-2 result which effectively ended the Country’s chance of defending the Afcon title won in 2013.

‘The players are in top shape and ready to go out and fight for the three points against South Africa.

‘There are a few players from the team that played against South Africa in 2014 and you can tell from their body language and conversations that they want revenge for that result here in Uyo.

Nigeria needed a win against South Africa in Uyo to finish in second spot and book a place at the 2015 Afcon, but a Tokelo Rantie’s double saw the team struggling in the first half.

Second half substitute, Sone Aluko restored some hope in the 68th minute to cut the deficit to just one.

He returned in the 90th minute to to bag his brace but the Eagles’ late charge would fall short of delivering a  ticket to Equatorial Guinea.
