Super Falcons objective against Banyana Banyana is Clear – Ajibade

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed the team’s determination and motivation to clinch a spot in the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Super Falcons won the first-leg of the tie 1-0 courtesy of an Ajibade first-half penalty in Abuja, Friday.

Friday’s result was a crucial step for Nigeria, as they strive to make a comeback to the Olympics after a 16-year hiatus.

Nigeria’s last appearance in the Women’s Football Event at the Olympic Games was in Beijing 2008.

Meanwhile, ahead of the game in Abuja, stand-in captain Ajibade had stressed the team’s resolve to end their prolonged absence.

“From the time we played Ethiopia, we have been committed to seeing these qualification series through,” Ajibade said.

“Our objective has always been to win the slot for the Olympics. Most of us in the team are yet to play at the Olympics and this is a big issue for us. We want to be there in Paris.

“There are a couple of issues the Super Falcons have to sort out with Banyana Banyana. However, that is not the motivation this time. The motivation is qualifying for the Olympics.”

The second leg will hold on Tuesday, April 9 in Pretoria, South Africa.
