Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been handed a maiden invitation to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Awoniyi was invited to replace injured Terem Moffi for their 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifying matches against the Central African Republic.
Awoniyi’s invitation was made public immediately after he scored a second-half brace in Union Berlin’s 2-1 comeback win over Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.
Awoniyi is a member of Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets squad that won the FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
The 24-year-old has also featured for the Flying Eagles and the Dream Team Eagles in the past.
The former Liverpool forward has scored eight goals and recorded two assists for Union Berlin this season.
