Taiwo Awoniyi hails Union Berlin’s win over Frankfurt

Striker Taiwo Awoniyi is delighted with Union Berlin’s performance against in-form Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

The Berlin-based team picked all the three points on Easter Sunday at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, thanks to goals from Awoniyi and Grischa Prömel.

Awoniyi added another goal to his record Bundesliga tally for Union Berlin in the 17th minute.

Awoniyi grabbed his 13th of the campaign, powering through the Frankfurt defenders and firing past Jens Grahl.

Referee Frank Willenborg later consulted a video assistant referee, but there was no infringement against Martin Hinteregger.

It quickly became 2-0 a few minutes later and it was a special goal for the Alte Försterei faithful to enjoy. Grischa Prömel took the ball comfortably on 21 minutes around 25 yards from goal and bent the ball high past, Grahl, into the net.

Union Berlin held for the result as there were no further goals in the second half of the game.

Awoniyi then took to his social media handle to praise the team for a perfect performance against Frankfurt who themselves came into the game on the back of a big win over Barcelona in Camp Nou.

“Great team performance, @fcunion_en ” The Super Eagles forward posted on his verified Twitter page.

The Nigerian who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United and Aston Villa has now scored 13 goals in the league this season.
