Terminally-ill Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery is not well enough to make the trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend to make his side’s (Sunderland) final Premier League match against Chelsea.
Calls for Bradley, who celebrated his sixth birthday on Wednesday, to present Chelsea with the Premier League trophy after the final game of the season was initiated by blues fan Gary Burgess who posted the suggestion on Facebook, and was picked up on Twitter by a Premier League fanpage, garnering over 22,000 retweets for the idea.
Bradley’s family took to Twitter to confirm that Chelsea had been in touch with the birthday boy to invite him down to London for Sunday, but that unfortunately he was not well enough to make the trip.
‘Chelsea invited Brad down on Sunday but unfortunately he is not well enough to go. Thank you for everyone for thinking of him,’ said the Twitter post.
Bradley, whose battle with the rare childhood cancer neuroblastoma has touched people around the world, has been inundated with Birthday messages from wellwishers, including one from his hero, Jermain Defoe.
🎂 Happy Birthday to my best mate @Bradleysfight. Hope you have a special day and I’ll see you later this week…❤ #HappyBirthdayBrad pic.twitter.com/ugokGgdMS9
